MERRY MEALS

Our lodge kitchen serves wholesome, delicious, buffet-style breakfasts and evening meals lovingly prepared by our staff. 

 

For our home-cooked dinners, served around 7pm each evening, we offer an array of homegrown organic garden greens and veggies, free-range meats and vegan options.

Sign up by 4pm daily to join for dinner.

 

Our breakfast menu includes a health buffet of home-baked breads, home-made muesli, fruits, yoghurt, a selection of jams and fresh filter coffee as well as a vegetarian fry-up option with cheese, basil pesto, fried tomato, free-range eggs and toast. 

 

Sign up each morning from 8 – 10am.

FUNKY FACILITIES

Our earthy forest lodge and backpackers offers great facilities for a peaceful, relaxing getaway or a fun filled working holiday.  

Our shared communal spaces are simple and rustic, friendly and welcoming.  We do all we can to ensure that you feel comfortable and at home during your time with us. 

 

Daily yoga and other wellness activities, along with easy access to a variety of forest, mountain and beach adventures, all provide abundant stimulation for your wild spirit.  

This exquisite spot nestled on the western tip of the Tsitsikamma National Park is full of surprises!

The Wild Shop & Tattoo studio, boasts a beautiful selection of ethically sourced creations & accessories made by local artisans and a collection of pre-loved clothing and books.

MERRY MEALS

We believe in conscious, simple, wholesome country living, and strive wherever possible to create a healthy, balanced and stimulating environment where our guests can access various creative and wellness practices on offer in the area. 

 

Our in-house staff and local friends have a variety of skills to share. Some of these include a masseuse, a yoga teacher, qigong instructor, hairdresser, seamstress, beekeeper, music producer and a songwriter. 

When they are available, sessions or lessons can be booked with them directly or at Reception. 

 

We also grow organic vegetables, chop wood, remove alien vegetation and go for long walks with the dogs – all of which we consider to be the movement medicine of country life. We encourage our guests to partake in these daily joys!

MOVEMENT & MEDICINE

FOREST FANTASIES

This area is heaven for nature lovers! A short walk will take you down for a dip in deep rock pools in the valley below the Lodge, or to a massive 900-year old Yellowwood tree who loves to be visited. For a peaceful dose of ‘forest bathing’, we suggest a 30-minute barefoot walk along the bank of the Magic Forest river on the western slope of the farm. 

 

Nature's Valley, a ten-minute drive down the pass, boasts one of the most pristine beach and lagoon combos on the Garden Route, and is fabulous for swimming, chilling and bird watching, with various hiking trails radiating outwards and upwards.  

 

Not to be missed is a six-hour circular hike which takes you through all five of the local biomes which gives the Garden Route its reputation for being one of the most bio-diverse areas on planet earth. Ask at Reception for a map!

FOREST FANTASIES

Wild Spirit has become a popular destination for travelling musicians, yogis and other creatives who come to share their skills in this inspiring natural setting. 

 

It is a place where friendships are formed across cultures and continents - a melting pot of local and international travellers who share a love of adventure in nature, alternative and open-minded thinking, and enjoyment of the simple pleasures of life. 

 

Regular workshops, retreats, sound journeys and live music performances are ongoing occurrences, as well as two very special conscious festivals which happen yearly, namely

 

 

We also host magical country weddings and smaller celebratory gatherings for those who know and love the space.

MAGICAL MOMENTS

WILDLIFE WONDERS

Wild Spirit is on the western boundary of the Tsitsikamma National Park. As such, we share the space with the fantastic variety of fauna and flora which give the Garden Route its reputation for being a significant hotspot of biodiversity in the world.  

 

Baboons, vervet monkeys, bushbuck and the gorgeous Knysna Loerie are common sightings in these parts, as are butterflies, bees, spiders and the occasional snake.

Please note: while we endeavor to make your stay as comfortable as possible, WE DO NOT HARM ANY WILDLIFE, big or small. We make exceptions for mosquitos who are impossible to relocate! 

​

On the land you will meet our family of ginger cats, dogs, and horses. We ask our guests to enjoy their company and proximity but to actively respect their personal space. 

​

In the surrounding area you will also find a variety of animal sanctuaries listed under ‘Local is Lekker’.

LOCAL IS LEKKER

There are various animal sanctuaries nearby including elephants, big cats, birds, monkeys and snakes, and Kurland Park horse trails is a short drive up the road.

Within walking distance is the delectable Nature’s Way farm stall and Nursery, a great place for tea and cake or lunch in a quaint farmyard setting. 

Ten minutes away is The Peppermill restaurant, situated at the Mohair Mill centre, which has a variety of interesting art and craft shops to enjoy. 

There are also a few local wine farms with further options for lunch and wine tasting.  

In the direction of Plettenberg Bay, you will find the Old Nick Village, home to a variety of lovely local gift shops, and the Mungo Mill, which produces the most beautiful handspun textiles in South Africa.

 

ACTIVE ADVENTURES

The Garden Route is an adventure destination for anyone who enjoys a bit of adrenalin or a lot of wildlife. Some of the most popular adventures in and around the Crags include the famous Bloukrans bungy, Africanyon river adventures, Kurland Park horse trails and some excellent rock climbing routes.

 

In nearby Plettenberg Bay you will find dolphin and whale watching, scuba diving, swimming with seals, skydiving and some excellent mountain bike routes. 

In the opposite direction you can enjoy a Zipline Canopy tour through the forest or explore the Tsitsikamma National Park where the famous Otter Trail begins.
